Sustainability of The Physically Challenged Persons Through Educational Empowerment In A Digital Age: Challenges For Information Managers

ABSTRACT:
The paper posited that the educ·ational empowerment of the physically challenged is paramount to their sustainability in life. It argued that change is inevitable both for organizational and individual survival. The importance of educational training for the physically challenged was also discussed, together with the challenges of globalization, in the digital knowledge and learning environment, and easy access to global information. A case for informatioi:i development, of the physically challenged among the developed/developing libraries was compared. Problems encountered by information professionals . were also highlighted. The paper concluded that while the conventional approach to information has been helpful, the evolving electronic information challenges all information professionals to acquire the necessary digital skill to ensure professional relevance to the physically challenged persons. The paper recommended that repositioning of the physically challenged persons through educational training is paramount for their sustainability.
