KEYWORDS: LIBRARIES AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN NIGERIAN RURAL ENVIRONMENT
ABSTRACT:
Knowledge is treasure. The library as a vital resourceand access to knowledge through in formation has become a right. This paper makes a strong case for the place of libraries in the education, learning, environmental management and human development of the Nigerian child. In early childhood and at the rural level, school, public and family libraries are a veritable force in the promotion ofthe child's basic human rights. Every effort should be made by parents and teachers to bring children and books together in a fruitful union. The provision of functional school libraries resource centres (SLRC) and sustainable library services in the Nigerian rural settings for the ealy childhood education of her citizens is therefore a Sine qua non.
