ABSTRACT:

The paper examined the role of community library on educational achievement of residents of ljebu-Ode Local Government Area ofOgun State. Data were collected through questionnaire after which they were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Of the 350 copies of questionnaires distributed to users of the library that comprise students, civil servants, public/ private business owners as well as some educated market men and women, 304 were filled and returned representing 86.9% response rate. Findings revealed that the community library provides a wide range of functions and services such as reader services, referral as well as other information services, while the impact of the library is more felt by secondary school students and civil servants preparing for further studies. It was discovered that library extension services, exhibitions and community enlightenment programme that can really benefit non- literate adults and other members of the community are not performed by the library. As a solution to the improvement of library services, it was recommended that government should accord priority to the community library in terms of funding, as it is only then, that the library can effectively meet up with the yearnings and aspirations of it users that cut across different ages.
