ABSTRACT:

Libraries manage and disseminate a wide variety of information resources most of which are created outside the world of their institutions. The management of information resources created by the institution itself, staff of the institutions and other user communities has remained a challenge. This paper examines how institutional repositories specifically DSpace can be used by libraries to effectively manage information resources created within the four walls of their institutions. The paper concludes that the use of institutional repositories such as DSpace makes it easy to upload materials quickly, and facilitate access through the web. Adoption of Dspace by Nigerian libraries for management of locally created information resources to ensure global dissemination for the optimum benefit of the institution and world at large is recommended.
