Globalization: A Challenge To Counter Terrorism In Nigeria.

ABSTRACT:

This paper critically examines the process ofglobalization as a challenge to counter- terrorism in Nigeria. It aims to show how globalization poses a strong challenge to Nigerian government's efforts on counter terrorism and the ways to solve the problem of globalization in order to adequately combat Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria. The secondary source ofdata collection was adopted. And the data were analyzed qualitatively. This paper adopted the hyper globalist theory as aframework ofanalysis. This work observed that globalization poses a strong challenge to the Nigerian government's efforts towards combating the Boko Haram insurgency. This is because, with the advantage ofglobalization via the use ofinformation and communication technology, the Boko Haram has been able to established effective link orties with other international terrorist organization; made adequate use ofinformation sharing and networking among members and possession of modem arms and ammunitions etc. It was recommended that for Nigeria government to effectively counter terrorism, it need to take advantage of the process of globalization through: proper adoption of modern technological gadgets (ICT); strengthen the collaboration between Nigeria and other countries in the region and in the international community; strengthening ofinter-security agency collaborations etc
