Output of Library and Information Science Research Publications and Their Availability In Academic Libraries
ABSTRACT:
A survey of the extent of Library and Information Science research publications output in relation to the extent of their availability and consequent accessibility in academic libraries. It focuses on the publications indices of the LIS research output of librarians in academic institutions in Abia state, south-east, Nigeria within a ten year period, (2005 2014),although it could have implications for LIS research publications output elsewhere. The data collection instrument is the structured questionnaire, administered on a population of 52 librarians. Descriptive percentage analysis method was used to interpret the data. The position of the paper is that the publications count for librarians is on the increase although this has not translated to increased availability of the publications in the relevant libraries. This has negative implications for the accessibility and use of the information sources published by librarians and by implication, for the essence of research.
